28è concurs Joves Cuiners Àngel Moncusí

La Boscana participates in the 28th edition of the competition Young Chefs Àngel Moncusí

On March 6th, a total of 14 chefs took part in the 28th edition of the competition Young Chefs Àngel Moncusí, which was held at the school of Hostelry and Tourism in Lleida. La Boscana was present in two ways, in the form of chef Albert Graells as a competitor of the event and Robert Vidal as a member of the judging panel, representing  Joel Castanyé. The winner of the competition was Genís Costa Pont from restaurant Niam in Tarrega, and we offer him our heartfelt congratulations.

The 14 aspiring to win the title had to prepare a main course and some desserts. What they didn’t know until the last moment were the secret ingredients which they would be using;  lamb for the main course and locally-grown Lleida pears for the desserts. Albert Graells presented for his main course, lamb infused with aromas of the earth and for desserts, a pear foam, a chocolate crumble and a caramelised cream of pear medallion with a pear sorbet. Graells was very positive about his participation in the event. “This was the second time I have taken part and I felt more confident and less nervous. I’m very happy with the result and I can say I enjoyed myself very much in the kitchen.” In addition, he emphasised the importance of Lleida hosting this kind of gastronomic event to strengthen and highlight the high level of gastronomy which we have here in Lleida.

The panel of judges had some very special members. The 3 chefs from the restaurants in Lleida with Michelin stars, plus the winner of last year’s competition. So, we had Xixo Castaño of Malena, (Gimenells), Zaraida Cotonat of Fogony, (Sort), Albert  Capdevila, Young Chefs winner 2016 and Robert Vidal, representing Joel Castanyé of La Boscana.

This annual event has consolidated its place as one of the most relevant and prestigious of the country.  Apart from promoting the dishes of these young chefs, it strengthens the gastronomic culture of Lleida province.  It is worth noting that Young Chefs Àngel  Moncusí  is one of the oldest and most important cooking competitions in Catalonia and the rest of the country. The first edition of this event took place in 1989.

The team here at La Boscana are very happy about our participation in this event and we are grateful for the warm welcome we received at the Hostelry and Tourism School in Lleida.
